Urgent needs to prepare for the days ahead

We are living in days of such uncertainty here in Ukraine, but we are certain that our God is a mighty God who loves and cares for each of us deeply – with this we are at peace.  Through people we know that are in the East of Ukraine and reports that troops have indeed not left the borders of Ukraine, we now feel it is imperative that we prepare for the days ahead – Ukrainians fleeing from the East because we are on the brink of a second invasion.  Our area is sufficiently far from the East, so for now, we do not feel like there is a threat the invasion will make it our way.

We are so grateful to all of those who have written, called and asked how they can be of help.  Tonight, we met with our dear friends, Koen and Ira.  Koen is from Belgium and is the Director of Christians for Israel here in Ukraine.  We talked about the days ahead, what they would entail, how they are preparing, how we could work together to help each other and the many people who we expect will need help in the days/months to come. Koen and Ira will be working on caring for the Jewish population and the possibility of evacuating via the Moldovan border right near our home.  So, we will help in whatever way they need, housing, transportation, food, etc.

Going off of our experience from 2014, we will have people coming from the East, that have left everything, have to start over and will need help rebuilding their lives or at least need aid until they can return to their homes.  Therefore, we’d like to purchase an inventory of food for food bags and meals on wheels, hygiene kits, towels, linens (sheets, blankets, pillows), laundry detergent and fuel (we have already purchased for our family, so this would be additional fuel for helping others). We plan to use our Crisis Center in Mohyliv as a distribution center and shelter as needed.

Of course, the most important thing you can all do is pray, pray for our leaders, pray for Ukraine, pray for our people, pray we accomplish all that God has for us here and pray for our enemies that they would know Him.  Secondly, all these preparations will take finances, so here’s a break out of what we’d like to purchase within the next week:

* 500 food bags at $20/bag
* Stocking food for meals on wheels – $1500
* 500 hygiene kits at $10/kit
* 200 towels at $5/towel
* 200 sets of linens at $35/set
* 50 bags of laundry detergent at $10/bag
* 1300 gallons of fuel at $4.86/gallon

We are thankful for the support and prayers from each of you.  Again, we’d like to reiterate that if it becomes unsafe for us here, we will make our way across the border, but for now we will stay and be prepared and put on the full armor of God and trust in Him.

We love you all!

With our friends, Koen and Ira, having a little tea discussing strategies for the upcoming months. Glad we can still smile and have some good laughs in the midst of some scary times.
